How to Solve Printer Error 0x0000011b on Windows ,The problem of computers not being able to print to printer sharing (printers installed on other computers) can be caused by various things. It can be from a network connection, an inactive print spooler service or even a bug from Windows updates, such as error 0x0000011b which causes printer sharing to not connect.

Error code 0x0000011b appears when you want to share a printer on Windows 10. The error is caused by the latest Windows 10 update 2021-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 21H1 for x64-based Systems (KB5005565).

In recent days there have been cases where several computers could not connect to printer sharing as usual. When trying to re-connect, the error Windows cannot connect to the printer, Operation failed with error 0x000011b as shown above.

A. Causes of Printer Sharing Won't Connect

It turns out that the problem of printer sharing not wanting to connect with error 0x0000011b is caused because Windows has just installed security update KB5005565, which according to one user on the Microsoft forum is a protocol created in January, but is only now being implemented.

KB5005565 is a security update mainly released to patch the PrintNightmare vulnerability in depreciated Point and Print technology.

In Point and Print technology, client PCs connect to a remote printer managed by a host/server without requiring installation media on the client side.

Printer drivers and configuration files are fetched from the host/server computer and installed locally on the client computer.

With the PrintNightmare vulnerability in Point and Print technology, it is feared that someone will be able to bypass the security settings and be able to gain administrative rights on the computer system.

B. How to Solve Printer Error 0x0000011b in Windows 10

From the explanation above, there are several ways that we can try to solve the problem of computers that cannot connect to the printer sharing, which are as follows:

1. Windows and Driver Updates

If the client and server computers (the computer with the printer installed) are already using the same operating system, then update windows on both computers.
Then remove the printer and uninstall the printer driver completely then install the printer from scratch with the latest printer driver.

2. Uninstall Windows Update

If the first method is not possible, for example because it takes too long or the two computers have different operating systems, then we can uninstall Windows Update KB5005565 on the computer where the printer is installed.
  • Open Control Panel,
  • click Programs and Features,
  • click View Installed Updates,
  • Next,
  • find KB5005565 as shown in the picture below,
  • right-click and click Uninstall,
  • the uninstall process will take a while.
  • When finished,
  •  Restart the computer
uninstall windows update KB5005565

The Windows update uninstall process takes quite a while, from my experience it lasts about 30 minutes.

After windows update KB5005565 has been successfully uninstalled, then restart the computer and try to print again to the sharing printer.

If you don't find windows update KB5005565, try to delete or uninstall other windows updates including KB5005573 and KB890830.

Windows updates should be installed, but if for some reason we want to disable windows updates for a while, then we can first disable the windows update service.

3. Edit the Windows Registry

Windows update KB5005565 aims to patch Print Spooler vulnerabilities and for this purpose, the update will enable the RpcAuthnLevelPrivacyEnabled setting in the windows registry.

But if one of the computers (print server or client) is not in accordance with RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_PRIVACY, it can cause the printer sharing to be inaccessible with the Printer Error 0x0000011b message.

As quoted from the microsoft forum that disabling the RpcAuthnLevelPrivacyEnabled setting in the windows registry is the fastest way to solve Printer Error 0x0000011b in this case.

This method has been done several times by the author and so far it has worked well, here are the steps.

Look for “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print”, and add a new DWORD value with the name RpcAuthnLevelPrivacyEnabled with value data = 0. as shown below.

When you're done adding the key, close the registry editor window. Then open the Services window again and restart the Print Spooler service again.

After the Print Spooler service service has been successfully restarted, then try to print the document again.

Now our computer should be able to print to the printer sharing normally.

Those are some tips on how to overcome Printer Error 0x0000011b that we can do when the computer cannot print to Printer sharing, good luck.
